China assisted Pakistan in six projects of $2757m in six years

Lower House of the Parliament was informed on Wednesday that Pakistan had launched six different projects worth $ 2757.400 million in collaboration with China during March 2005 to December 2010. “As many as six projects worth US$ 2757.400 million have been launched with technical and financial support of China during the period of March 2005 to December, 2010,” newly appointed Minister of State for Production Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood said while speaking on behalf of Finance Minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.

He said a total amount of $ 837.547 had been disbursed for the projects. During Question-Hour session of the National Assembly, he said another five projects worth $409.292 million were under process for implementation.
Replying to a supplementary question of Sajid Ahmed, he said the projects included nuclear power plants, construction of national highways, satellite communication and rehabilitation of earthquake affected areas.
Replying to a question of Nisar Tanveer, Khawaja Sheraz said that the Export Development Surcharge was levied at the rate of 0.25 per cent of the value of exportation of goods.
He said collection of Export Development Surcharge become part of Federal Consolidated Fund from where amount was transferred to the Export Development Fund (EDF) through the budgetary mechanism.
Khawaja Sheraz said that the Ministry of Commerce had been advised to carry out third party evaluation of EDF.
